Mark your calendars: Swamp Buggy & Santa Run

The East Naples Civic Association is already beginning to plan their annual Santa Run for the children of East Naples, to be held on December 13th.  Yup………it’s just around the corner.  If you are interested in helping, please call Ron Cummings at 775-1337.
Also assisting on the “Run" committee will be Jeff Macasevich and Marci Seamples.

The Swamp Buggy parade is coming up even sooner…….October 25th.  Put it on your calendar.  It is one of the largest parades of the year and has some truly unique vehicles involved.  Of course the Swamp Buggy Races are unique to this area and covered by national television, so you won’t want to miss them.  Assisting as always, will be East Naples Civic Association and East Naples Kiwanis.  Volunteers are always welcome.  Just e-mail donnafiala@colliergov.net to offer your assistance.

Pembroke Pines Recycling Center, September 19, 2008

Many of you have joined me on the Public Utility tours I have offered.  We’ve visited the Water Treatment Plant, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Landfill.  Our next tour (requested by those on the tour of the landfill) will be to the Pembroke Pines Recycling Center.   The tour begins at 8:30 AM on Friday, September 19th.  We will meet in the parking lot of Building H at the Government Center.  (Building H is the three story building toward the rear of the government complex.  The Public Health Unit is located in that area)

There are only 15 seats available, divided between two vans.  The drive is an hour and a half each way, so bring a good book.  Wear closed toed walking shoes, and women should wear pants or jean – NO skirts.  We will stop for a buffet lunch, so please be prepared to buy your meal.  The tour itself will last about an hour and a half.   I know this tour will be unusual and very interesting.

Boat Ramp Near Isles of Capri Moves Forward

Good News for Boaters!  After years of trying to obtain permits to add additional parking to the 951/Collier Blvd. boat ramp access near Isles of Capri, the County has finally received the nod to move forward.  The county has worked with the Conservancy to protect the sensitive environment and mangroves in the area.  They hope to receive the final approval, which is the submerged land lease, shortly.  Once received they will put the project out to bid.  When complete, the area will consist of the two boat ramps (already in place) and 85 parking spaces for trucks and boat trailers.  Presently there are 19 parking spaces.  Completion should be within one year.
